A Bitcoin miner for the home is now a small device with one or more mining chips that connects to a pool over WiFi. Almost everything we sell is open hardware: the Bitaxe with its AxeOS firmware and the Nerd family with NerdOS, an open offshoot of it. You need no manufacturer account and no app; everything is configured in the browser.

Which Bitcoin miners are there for the home?

The number of chips makes the biggest difference. It decides how much hashrate a device delivers, how much power it draws and where it can live:

  • One chip (Bitaxe Gamma 601, Nerdaxe Gamma): around 1.3 TH/s at 15 to 18 watts, quiet enough for a desk.
  • Four chips (NerdQaxe ++): around 4.8 TH/s at about 80 watts, with an audible fan.
  • Eight chips (NerdOctaxe): up to 12 TH/s at around 200 watts, better suited to a study or hobby room. The water-cooled NerdOctaxe Hydro reaches around 14 TH/s.

What matters when buying

  • A current chip such as the BM1370 or BM1373, so each terahash costs little power.
  • A matching power supply in the box, so you can start right away.
  • Open firmware in which you set pool, frequency and voltage yourself, with no cloud lock-in.
  • Stock and shipping inside the EU, so no customs duty applies.
  • Support in your language and a 14-day right of withdrawal.

Why open hardware instead of an industrial miner?

Industrial miners are built for data centers. They often need a dedicated circuit, are too loud for living space and run closed firmware. With open hardware the schematics and source code are public: you can see every setting, swap parts and keep running the device even after its maker stops maintaining it. What that means in practice is explained on open-source Bitcoin miners.

Which miner suits you?

All devices side by side with hashrate, power draw and electricity cost are in our miner comparison. What a particular device costs per month at your electricity price is worked out by the mining calculator; the formula is in Calculating mining power costs.

Frequently asked questions

Which Bitcoin miner is right for beginners?
A single-chip device: the Bitaxe Gamma 601 or the Nerdaxe Gamma with its display. Both draw around 15 watts and are set up in a few minutes. The NerdQaxe ++ and the NerdOctaxe offer more hashrate.
What does a Bitcoin miner for the home cost?
A single-chip device sits in the low three-figure range, eight-chip devices cost several times that. Current prices are shown on the product pages and in the miner comparison. On top comes electricity, which the mining calculator works out for your device.
Can I pay with Bitcoin?
Yes, on-chain or via Lightning, and you get 5 % off the item value. You can also pay by card, PayPal, stablecoins (USDC, USDT) or bank transfer.
How fast is delivery?
We ship stock within 24 hours, across Europe and without customs surprises, since we ship from the EU.
Is a home miner an investment?
No. In a pool a single device usually does not even cover its electricity. Most people run one because they want to help carry the Bitcoin network and like having a solo shot at a whole block. The mining calculator shows what your device costs in power.
Do I need technical knowledge?
No. You connect the device to your WiFi and enter a pool and your Bitcoin address, which takes a few minutes. Our guides and our support help you get started.
